Seattle YWCA has adopted the term BIPOC, which stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Pronounced “bye-pock,” this term is specific to the United States, intended to center the experiences of Black and Indigenous groups and to demonstrate solidarity between communities of color, which represent approximately one-third of people in King County. In the past, we kept separate calendars for Women’s Professional Events and Diversity/Inclusion, which included LGBTQ. A BIPOC calendar would seem to exclude LGBTQ events unless they are specifically related to communities of color. BIPOC is such a new term that we are still figuring it out.

Calendar Status on November 10, 2021: BETA
The calendars are fully functional. Calendar software is still under evaluation. Features and taxonomy are subject to change during the development phase. We are not yet at 100 live and in-person Seattle events per day – that is the 2022 goal.
