What to Expect

Join the community for Honoring Our Black Wall Streets, an annual event featuring Black-owned businesses in the heart of Central District.

Come to enjoy shopping from local Black entrepreneurs along with food vendors and activities for all ages!

Black Wall Street was a thriving African American business district in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the early 20th century. Despite facing discrimination and segregation, Black entrepreneurs and community leaders built a prosperous community that included banks, hotels, restaurants, and more.

However, in 1921, this success was tragically cut short when a white mob attacked Black Wall Street, resulting in the destruction of hundreds of businesses and homes and the loss of countless lives.

In commemoration of this history, our Honoring our Black Wall Streets celebrates the legacy of our vibrant communities and honors the resilience of the people who continue to build vibrant and thriving businesses and communities in spite of the barriers they face.

Join us for an event equally filled with celebration, reflection, and inspiration as we honor the legacy of Black Wall Street and work towards building a brighter future for Black Seattle.

Why does Seattle need this directory?

1

Covid has ruined the travel plans of so many people.  Maybe you are one of them.  Family trips, honeymoons, first time overseas trips postponed and cancelled.  Please explore this directory to create your own Round-the-World experience without traveling far from Seattle.

2

Believe it or not, in 2022, New York City passed a law granting non-US citizens the right to vote in certain local and municipal elections.  Will Seattle follow NYC?  Time will tell.  If that comes to be, then this directory should be indispensable.  Let us know what you think.
