FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Presenting World Refugee Day Global Village in Tukwila on June 28
On June 20th, organizations around the world raise awareness and advocate for solutions for those forced to flee their home countries. With a long history of refugee resettlement, Washington is among the top 10 states in the U.S. assisting thousands of people fleeing violence, persecution, and environmental disasters. The event’s host city, Tukwila, has long been a welcoming community for newcomers from Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan, Ukraine and more recently asylum seekers from Angola, Congo, and Venezuela.
New arrivals are contributors to our communities. They bring their talents, hopes, dreams, and entrepreneurial spirit. World Refugee Day is an opportunity to create communities of belonging and inclusion. This day honors their courage and determination to rebuild.
For a third year, organizers will host the World Refugee Day Global Village on Saturday, June 28th, 12-5pm, 2025, at Foster High School in Tukwila, WA. Experience Tukwila, King County Library System (KCLS), International Rescue Committee (IRC), and Wide World for Refugees partner to bring refugees and immigrants from over 20 countries together for a multifaceted event. Participants enjoy making connections at resource tables, buying treasures from vendors, dancing along with performers, participating in kids’ activities, and partaking in international culinary experiences.
The World Refugee Day Global Village raises awareness and celebrates the rich diversity of our newest community members. Each year 400 individuals pass through the doors thanks to generous supporters. By joining us in this important event, you actively stand with us in solidarity with refugees locally and worldwide. Your participation on this day is a powerful display of acceptance and unity.
Join us for World Refugee Day. Please make this year’s event a success by becoming part of the event in one of the many ways – Sponsor, Vendor, Volunteer, Performer, or Attendee.
