Local Immigrant Population*

3000

*Immigrant Population is an estimated sum of the number of naturalized Americans from this country and citizens from this country living in the Seattle Metro Area under any sort of immigration visa.  It does not count the American offspring or descendants of immigrants from this country, which can go back many generations and account for large numbers of people.  1,000 is the default number when we don’t have a better count.

Languages:

English, Fijian, and Hindi are the three national languages of Fiji.

Notes:

Bula vinaka, namaste and welcome to Fiji in Seattle!  What Seattleite has not dreamed of visiting this South Pacific country in January?  While that may be just a dream for most, the prospect of experiencing a taste of Fijian hospitality in Seattle is a possibility.

Seattle is not a particularly top destination for Fijians who settle in America.  California is consistently the state Fijians that Fijians choose.  However, Snohomish just north of Seattle does seem to have a cluster of Fijians acclimated to the PNW.

There are not many or any organized, distinctly Fijian community organizations nearby.  However, Seattle does have many organizations serving Pacific Islanders where Fijians may be found volunteering, participating, and leading.   As for food Fiji-style, it’s worth chasing down Tolu Fijian Cuisine (farmers markets, catering, food truck).  Billed as Seattle’s only Fijian food joint, we are checking to confirm that Tolu is still in business in 2022.

There is a Fiji-USA Business Council, but no indication of activities specific to the PNW.

Why does Seattle need this directory?

1

Covid has ruined the travel plans of so many people.  Maybe you are one of them.  Family trips, honeymoons, first time overseas trips postponed and cancelled.  Please explore this directory to create your own Round-the-World experience without traveling far from Seattle.

2

Believe it or not, in 2022, New York City passed a law granting non-US citizens the right to vote in certain local and municipal elections.  Will Seattle follow NYC?  Time will tell.  If that comes to be, then this directory should be indispensable.  Let us know what you think.
